The <strong>risk is highest in the first year<\/strong> of using the Pill.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clots can also (rarely) occur in the <strong>heart<\/strong> (heart attack) or <strong>brain<\/strong> (stroke), and in <strong>liver, gut, kidney, or eye<\/strong> vessels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ageing<\/strong> and <strong>smoking<\/strong> further increase the risk. <strong>Stop smoking<\/strong>, especially if <strong>over 35<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Surgery or immobilisation<\/strong> (e.g., leg in plaster) increases risk. <strong>Inform your doctor well in advance<\/strong> of surgery or immobilisation; you may need to <strong>stop YASMIN several weeks beforehand<\/strong> and restart only when fully mobile, as advised.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Stop YASMIN and seek medical help immediately<\/strong> if you have possible signs of a clot, heart attack, or stroke:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unusual cough; chest pain (may spread to left arm); shortness of breath.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Severe or persistent headache or migraine; sudden change in vision (including loss\/double vision).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slurred speech; sudden changes in hearing, smell, or taste; dizziness or fainting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weakness\/numbness in part of the body.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Severe abdominal pain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Severe pain or swelling in a leg.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cancer\"><\/span>Cancer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Breast cancer<\/strong> has been diagnosed <strong>slightly more often<\/strong> in Pill users than non-users; the difference gradually disappears over about <strong>10 years<\/strong> after stopping.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Liver tumours<\/strong> (benign or malignant) have been reported; they can cause <strong>internal bleeding<\/strong>\u2014seek urgent care for <strong>severe abdominal pain<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The main risk factor for <strong>cervical cancer<\/strong> is <strong>persistent HPV infection<\/strong>.
